Dante's Purgatorio

De Visceral Games

Dante's Purgatorio was the planned sequel to Visceral Games' 2010 action-adventure game Dante's Inferno. The game would have seen protagonist Dante ascending Mount Purgatory to reunite with Beatrice and reach the Garden of Eden, inverting the descent structure of the original game. Each terrace of the mountain represented one of the Seven Deadly Sins, which Dante would have to purge from himself through "Vision Caves" - playable memory sequences where he relived his past sins. Inspired by Uncharted 2's approach, Purgatorio aimed to replace cutscenes and quick-time events with scripted gameplay sequences maintaining player control. The game would have concluded with Lucifer tricking Dante and murdering him through Beatrice's form, setting up a third installment, Paradiso.
